Who We AreSan Benito County is the fastest-growing county in California. This has resulted in terrible traffic conditions, overcrowded schools, and slower response times for emergency services (fire, police, and ambulance services).
Most Democrats in San Benito want to slow the growth. Unfortunately, the San Benito County Democratic Central Committee is very pro-development and has accepted donations from advocates for more development in our county. The local Democratic Central Committee does not represent the sentiment of the majority of San Benito Democrats. That's why twenty local Democrats ran in March 2024 for seats on the Central Committee. Nine of the candidates won. Unfortunately, the leadership of the San Benito County Democratic Central Committee refused to seat them until 2025, even though other County Democratic Central Committees (for example, Monterey and Santa Cruz) seated their elected Democratic representatives shortly after the March 2024 election. Several candidates for the Central Committee and other local Democrats have formed a new group, San Benito Democrats for Slow Growth, to advocate for policies and candidates who seek to slow the growth of housing subdivisions and protect our farmland. As retired U.S. Congressman Sam Farr has said, "It's time for a new way forward. The old way isn't working for most residents." Please join us to move San Benito County forward in a new direction that improves the quality of life of all residents. |
